A half-mask is a type of respirator that covers only part of the face. It is an item of personal protective equipment (PPE) intended to protect the respiratory tract from potentially harmful harmful substances. As a half mask, it does not cover the higher part of the face and consequently does not protect the eyes.
The Half Face piece Respirators should be designed to help provide respiratory protection against certain airborne contaminants when used in accordance with all use instructions and limitations and applicable safety and health regulations.
Specifications:
- Half Face Composition:
The Half Face piece Respirator shall be either a Thermo Plastic Elastomer or Silicon material, both being stable, odourless, hypoallergenic and pliable so as to conform to the user’s facial contours snugly.
- Weight:
Should be less than 60gms in weight
- Construction:
The respirator face piece must be designed to have a nose cup assembly and a secure single flange face seal especially along the contours of the users face and nose bridge area, to ensure a reliable seal at all times.
The material used to make the face piece should be available in two types Silicon and or Stable Thermoplastic Elastomer, durable, hypoallergenic in nature. i.e., it must not cause any irritation or any dermal allergic reaction when it comes in contact with the facial portion of the user.
- Versatility:
The face piece should be available in three sizes to ensure facial fit over a wide cross section of the worker population.
The face piece must be approved by NIOSH for both negative pressure and positive pressure use i.e., the product should be used for both Cartridges / Filters and as a supplied air configuration.
- Communications:
The respirator must have a speech facilitator so that the user is able to communicate effectively when wearing the respirator.
